POULSBO, Wash. - A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car Wednesday south of the Hood Canal Bridge, and the driver of the car is now under arrest for investigation of DUI and vehicular homicide, the Washington State Patrol reports.

State troopers and medics responded to the scene, near the intersection of Highway 3 and Big Valley Road, at about 10:15 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash involving a car and motorcycle.

The roadway was found to be blocked in both directions at the crash scene.

The motorcyclist was found with severe injuries, and later died, said Trooper Russ Winger of the State Patrol.

A preliminary investigation found that the driver of the car caused the crash and showed signs of impairment. That driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, and now faces a possible vehicular homicide charge. Winger said.

Highway 3 is closed at the scene, and is expected to remain closed until about 2:30 or 3 p.m. during the accident investigation.

Motorists are advised to avoid the highway, which is the main link to the Hood Canal Bridge and state ferry terminals in Kitsap County.
