A 25-year-old man died after crashing into the back of a stalled car on Highway 212 near Happy Valley Sunday evening, and officers arrested the driver after they say he drove away from the scene.
Oregon State Police troopers responded to the crash at Highway 212 and 130th Avenue around 5 p.m., where the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say a Kia Rio, driven by 20-year-old Uriy Dudko from West Plains, Missouri, was stalled in the fast eastbound lane of the highway when a Honda B6S motorcycle, driven by 25-year-old Mitchell Vandoren from Milwaukie, rear-ended him at a high rate of speed.
Police say Dudko got out of his car to check the damage, and then drove a short distance down 130th. He once again got out of the car to inspect the crash scene, but left again, according to police.
He was stopped by a Happy Valley sergeant a short time later.
Dudko was arrested and lodged at the Clackamas County Jail on failure to perform the duties of a driver to an injured person.
Highway 212 was closed for more than 3 hours.
