Head-on crash on Marcola Road claims a second life

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - A 17-year-old driver died at the hospital after his pickup crossed the center line on Marcola Road and collided head-on with an oncoming van Saturday, killing the driver of that vehicle.

The driver of the van - Todd Elkanah Kenady, 43, of Turner - died at the scene.

The driver of the pickup - so far identified by state police only as a 17-year-old boy - later died from his injuries at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.

The crash happened on Marcola Road around 6:35 a.m. Saturday.

The preliminary investigation found the teen driver crossed into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons and collided head-on with Kenady's van.

The crash response and investigatino closed the road for 5 hours.
