Head-on crash claims life of Philomath man

CORVALLIS, Ore. - A Philomath man died when an oncoming car veered into his lane and collided with his vehicle head-on Friday afternoon, the Benton County Sheriff's Office said.

The crash happend just after 12:30 p.m. on Walnut Boulevard near the Corvallis city limits.

Investigators say Bradford J. Hickswa, 28, of Corvallis was northbound when his 1999 PontiaGrand Am veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2010 Ford Escape.

The driver of the Escape, 75-year-old Douglas Lee Stewart of Philomath, died from his injuries at the hospital.

Hickswa was taken to the hospital in serious condition, the sheriff's office said.

The crash investigation closed Walnut Boulevard for 4 hours. Deputies don't yet know what caused the Grand Am to cross the center line.
