SHORELINE, Wash. -- A man was critically injured when he was struck by a car moments before the car went into a pawn shop in Shoreline, fire officials said.

It happened around 10 a.m. at the Cash America Pawn in the 17100 block of Aurora Avenue North, according to Michelle Pidduck with Shoreline Fire.

A car was heading south on Aurora waiting to make a legal U-Turn at 170th, but the driver didn’t look for oncoming cars before turning and collided with a car going north on Aurora, Sgt. Ryan Abbott with the King County Sheriff's Office said.

The impact sent the northbound car over the curb where it struck a man working outside the pawn shop, pinning him against the building, Pidduck said.

The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with what medics described as "lower body trauma" such as leg and foot injuries. Abbott said the man's injuries were life-threatening.

No one else was hurt.

A photo from the scene showed significant damage to the corner of the building and its front window.
