Car catches fire after crash on Hwy 126; at least 1 person dead

A car crashed and caught fire Wednesday. Police said the driver died.

VIDA, Ore. - One person is believed dead after a car crashed and caught fire on Highway 126 near Vida on Wednesday afternoon.

All lanes were closed in both directions as of 5 p.m. One lane opened around 5:30 p.m., and all lanes opened by 8 p.m. | CURRENT TRAFFIC

Sgt. Kyle Hove said one person is dead after their vehicle hit a rock and caught fire Wednesday evening.

Fire crews had to put out the fire before the investigation into the crash could begin. Troopers at the scene believe there is one person dead inside the vehicle, Hove said.

The cause of the crash and the identities of the person or people involved are not yet available.

Oregon DOT warned of a 20 minute to 2 hour delay for travelers.
