"You will see a football team that is competing to win a championship each and every week," Taggart said. "We will excel in our efforts in the classroom - and I'll repeat that, we will excel in our efforts in the classroom - and graduate our players."

His message to team:

  1. Show character
  2. Take care of business in the classroom
  3. Work your tail off on the field

After meeting with the team, Taggart said his next step is to go out and recruit the nation.

His message for Duck fans frustrated after a 4-8 season: "Buckle up."
