'We got her a dog': Family speaks out after man breaks into girl's room
ROSEBURG, Ore. - Peggy Railsback recalls her daughter running to her earlier this week, scared for her life.
A man broke into the girl's bedroom around 4 a.m.
"Sat on top of her, and covered her mouth, twisted her head, and covered her eyes," Railsback said.
The man then fled the scene once he realized the young girl was awake.
"At first, when she came into the bedroom, I thought she was dreaming," Railsback said. "When I went into her room and saw that her bedroom window was open, I just was so scared."
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is looking for the suspect, described as a young man with short hair.
Authorities want parents to contact them about anything suspicious in their homes.
"Call us," Sgt. Brad O'Dell said. "That's what we're here for. We're going to go out. We're going to investigate. We'll check it out."
Railsback is hopeful authorities will catch the man who entered her home, but she has a new guardian to protect her daughter.
"We got her a dog," she said, "and he's going to start sleeping with her all of the time. We went and looked at cameras and alarms yesterday, and we're going to get those."
