ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A non-profit in Douglas County is helping people file their taxes at no cost.
NeighborWorks Umpqua is offering free tax preparation and filing services.
People can schedule an appointment with a volunteer, use self-filing stations, or drop-off their taxes.
Organizers hope this will help increase one important tax credit.
"Earned income tax credit--the EITC. According to the Senate Majority Office, Oregon, only 74 percent of the state participates in the program," said NeighborWorks Umpqua's Nick Noyes.
Noyes says that's 6 percent lower than the national average.
The tax preparation sites in Roseburg and Coos Bay are open through April 13.
