COQUILLE, Ore. -- On Wednesday, February 7, Coos County Sheriff’s Office and Coquille Police Department responded to a residence on Fairview Road to assist Coquille Fire Department with a fire at a single-family residence.

The 69-year-old homeowner called 911 to report the blaze after he lost control of a fire in his wood stove, authorities said.

The residence was fully involved and the units were on scene for over four hours.

Traffic on Fairview Road was reduced to one lane during the firefighting efforts.

The initial investigation shows that the fire appears to have been accidental.

Police say the homeowner was taken to Bay Area Hospital on a Director’s Hold for Coos Health and Wellness for a mental illness evaluation.
