EUGENE, Ore. - The Eugene School District 4J Board of Directors is scheduled to take action on a resolution on safe schools that includes a "zero tolerance policy" for "possession of guns on any and all school campuses to the maximum extent permissible under state and federal law."

The resolution also states the district "wholly rejects arming school staff for any purpose, will maintain existing regulation of firearms at school, and will not support any effort to arm school staff."

The resolution also renews the district's commitment to "take any threats of violence seriously" and call on "Oregon and the United States Congress to invest in wraparound services to prevent bullying, harassment, discrimination and violence in our schools and to provide funding for programs and staff such as counselors, nurses and psychologists."

The school board meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday at 200 N. Monroe Street.
