Woman parks at Hermiston police station following police chase

HERMISTON, Ore. - A woman has been arrested after she ended a police car chase between Hermiston and Umatilla when she reportedly parked her car in a police station parking lot.

The owner of a Kia sedan told Hermiston police around 2 a.m., Saturday that his car was stolen while he was momentarily leaving his car to warm up.

While Hermiston police went out to find the car, Umatilla police found the car in the city of Umatilla. Police tried to pull the the vehicle over, but the driver did not stop.

Umatilla police and deputies with the Umatilla County Sheriff's Office chased the car back into Hermiston, according to reports.

The driver, 26-year-old Hope Morasch, then stopped in the Hermiston Police Department (HPD) parking lot where police arrested her.

No one was injured in this incident, according to HPD reports.

Detectives found a gun inside a purse in the sedan, which they suspect belonged to Morasch.

Police say Morasch is in Umatilla County Jail for unauthorized use of a vehicle, reckless driving, attempting to elude police and unlawful possession of a firearm.
