For decades, figure skating couple hits Portland rink: 'It's what brought us together'
PORTLAND, Ore. – For nearly half a century, a Portland couple has been putting on a show for shoppers at the Lloyd Center ice rink.
Jerry and Tally Leonard have been skating together since 1967.
They first met back high school when a professional ice skater suggested they compete together, based on their similar styles.
Since then, the duo made several appearances at the U.S. National Figure Skating Championships. They took home a 3rd place win in 1969.
A few years later, they got married.
“Skating for the two of us has been this common thread that we've always had. It's what brought us together, and we've just enjoyed skating - especially with each other,” Jerry said.
They still skate regularly at the Lloyd Center, typically hitting the ice Tuesday through Friday at 1 p.m.
When they're not skating, the two run a dental practice together in Portland.
