WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) -- An online fundraiser, launched by a government official on behalf of Sunday night's shooting victims in Las Vegas, has raised over $2 million.

Steve Sisolak, Clark County's Commission Chair from Las Vegas, launched the fund on Monday to assist those in need of help. He was inspired to do so after spending Sunday night at his county's only level-one trauma center.

Since the GoFundMe page launched, it has been shared 126,000 times on Facebook. Within 12 hours, at least 29,000 people were able to come together and raise over $2 million - $2,148,222.

The campaign is trending on GoFundMe's page and is expected to continue as Sisolak, a gubernatorial candidate in Nevada, hopes to reach the goal of raising $2.5 million.

All of this happens after a gunman killed at least 59 concertgoers while staying on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel. Over 500 people were injured and as of publication, there is no word on the motive for the attack.
