Nora the polar bear cub enjoys her first snow at Oregon Zoo
PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) - Portland's new polar bear friend went out for a romp in Monday's snowfall.
This is Nora's first snow since moving to Portland from the Columbus Zoo. She made her public debut in the Oregon Zoo enclosure last week.
"She's been very playful," said Nicole Nicassio-Hiskey, the senior marine animal keeper. "It's like having a new puppy on exhibit, she's been a lot of fun to have."
The 1-year-old cub made the cross-country move with the intent of living with Tasul, the Oregon Zoo's adult polar bear. Sadly, Tasul died last month after a battle with cancer. She was 31 years old.
Keepers had hoped Tasul could mentor Nora. Nicassio-Hiskey said it's essential she's in contact with another bear as she grows up.
The zoo says it is in talks to try and get a mate for Nora.
