ROSEBURG, Ore. - The high-risk sex offender with "a significant history of violence against adult women" alleged by authorities to have tampered with his GPS unit Wednesday in Roseburg and disappeared is in the Douglas County Jail, according to jail records.
Gregory Wayne Ferguson, 56, is on post-prison supervision after serving time for Rape and Attempted Murder, Douglas County Community Corrections said in a public appeal for help locating the man Wednesday.
Ferguson tampered with his GPS tracking unit around 2 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.
"His last location was on a bike trail in Roseburg, east of Gaddis Park," community corrections said. "Ferguson’s mother lives in Eagle Point, so he may be heading to Jackson County via Greyhound bus or hitchhiking."
Ferguson showed up in Douglas County Jail records Wednesday evening as in custody without bail on a Roseburg Police case.
Details of his apprehension were not immediately available.
