DETROIT, Ore. - The wildfire burning out of control near Mount Jefferson continues to pump smoke into the air over Oregon, contributing to the Air Quality Alert in effect through Tuesday.

The Whitewater Fire exploded in size this week, tripling its acreage in a day this week.

The fire had burned 4,800 acres as of Friday morning and was burning out of control with 0 percent contained.

The cost to fight the fire as of Friday morning stood at $3.4 million, according to the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho.
