DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. — A three-vehicle crash on Hwy 42 left one person dead on Monday afternoon.
The passenger of one of the vehicles, identified as Virginia Dewar, 79, sustained life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2001 Dodge Ram, operated by William Dewar, 85, struck the back of a stopped 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Patricia Unrun, 66. The impact of the crash pushed the Silverado into the back of a third car, a 1997 Dodge Dakota, operated by Allen Shoemaker, 38.
In the crash, William Dewar sustained serious injuries and was eventually transported to Riverbend Hospital. Unruh and Shoemaker sustained minor injuries, as did the single passenger and two juveniles in Shoemaker's car.
It was later revealed that neither William nor Virginia Dewar were wearing their seat belts during the crash.
