EUGENE, Ore - When Meredith Cherry and her horse Apollo arrived in Eugene, they hit the 800-mile mark of their 10,000-mile trip.

The ride started in a city outside Sacramento and will end in Maine. The miles are all for a good cause.

Cherry and her horse are riding to spread awareness about domestic violence.

Cherry said she is a victim of domestic violence, which is part of the reason she started the expedition across the country. She has been riding for two months, and she expects the trip to last anywhere from two to four years.

"Right now it's kind of a hidden issue," Cherry said. "There is one in three women who will experience an abusive relationship in their life and you don't ever really hear about it."

She and Apollo plan on hitting Washington next, and from there they'll head east.

You can follow their journey on her website.
