DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. - The Umpqua Valley Tennis Center in Roseburg is a hub for students and older folks in the area.

And now, the center is planning to replace its older outdoor courts, expand its indoor facility, and relocate its basketball courts.

"It's a really big opportunity for us to revamp our facilities here and kind of make this more of a destination for people to come and play tennis at," said Cameron Lawler.

But first, they needed the green light from the Roseburg City Council to start fundraising for their $4.9 million project.

"In order to make any changes to that city property, they needed to get council's preliminary approval so they can start finalizing their conceptual drawings and coming up with their fundraising plans," said Nikki Messenger, the Public Works Director.

The expansion will not cost the city any money, and the city supports the center's efforts to bring more playoffs and tournaments to the area.

"They do a lot for youth tennis and for the community in general, and so it's a very important facility to the community and we support it fully," said Messenger.

The Umpqua Valley Tennis Center is making sure it's serving the community, in every way possible.

The center is starting its fundraising efforts now, so the new courts can benefit the community for years to come.
