SWAT takes wanted suspect into custody near Roseburg
ROSEBURG, Ore. - Highway 99 north of Highway 42 was closed in the Green District of Roseburg while a SWAT team responded to take a wanted suspect into custody.
Oregon State Police said a wanted suspect was barricaded inside a vehicle.
"We are asking the public to please avoid the area near the Fast Stop Market (M Street) in Green," state police said in a news release.
A state police SWAT team responded to the scene.
OSP says the suspect is wanted for several felony warrants.
Lt. Bill Fugate said the suspect has been known to be armed in past. Fugate said the suspect is known to have made statements in the past about shooting it out with law enforcement or committing "suicide by cop."
"We activated the SWAT team to help us resolve the situation," Fugate said. "They have tools that normal patrol troopers don't."
He said the situation could take a couple hours if the suspect doesn't comply by the time the SWAT team gets there.
The SWAT team has tool available to them, from engaging in negotiations to breaking a window and sending in tear gas.
Oregon State Police said the highway was back open the suspect was in custody by 1 p.m.
