Sutherlin Police read books to pre-schoolers at Celebration of Literacy

Celebration of Literacy holds Super Hero Day in Sutherlin

SUTHERLIN, Ore. - The Celebration of Literacy is connecting kids with real life super heroes.

The month-long event held a "Super Hero Day" at the Sutherlin Library.

Officers with the Sutherlin Police Department read to pre-schoolers to spark their interest in literacy.

They say this is a great way for children to become comfortable with law enforcement.

"Meet the kids when they're young, give them stickers, let them get to know you as a person,” said Chief Troy Mills, with the Sutherlin Police Department. “And it just helps open the lines of communication later on."

Officers also shared safety tips with kids and parents. The Celebration of Literacy will continue through the month of February.
