Suspect in Springfield robbery now faces charges in Eugene case
EUGENE, Ore. - One of the men accused of robbing a deli in Springfield now faces accusations he robbed a deli in Eugene just a few days later.
Springfield Police arrested James Thomas Tkacs, 40, of Eugene in connection with a March 12 robbery at Lucky Lou's deli.
Detectives from Springfield worked with Eugene Police detectives to connect Tkacs to the March 15 robbery at Lil's Deli on River Road in Eugene, police said Tuesday.
It was the second armed robbery at the deli in less than two weeks. Police said they are still investigating the March 2 robbery.
Police are still investigating whether 32-year-ol Waquas Ali Bhatti - who faces charges along with Tkacs in the Springfield robbery - had any role in case.
The metro area has faced a rash of robberies in March, many of them involving firearms.
Eugene Police said there are still 11 active cases reported since February 23. University of Oregon Police detectives are working two other cases.
Detectives have determined that a robbery March 11 at 1 a.m. was not a robbery, but rather a case of "mutual combat."
