EUGENE, Ore. - A University of Oregon student reported being robbed by two men he met at a restaurant near campus early Sunday morning.

It's the latest in a string of robbery reports in Eugene, many of them centered near the Oregon campus.

“We’ve been providing extra patrols at night into our neighborhoods at night around campus," Chief Matthew Carmichael with UO Police said. "The fact that the robberies are off campus doesn't mean that we're not a vested partner. So we've had extra police patrols; we've upped our safe rides for students."

The student contacted UO Police on Tuesday afternoon. He told officers he was robbed March 11 between midnight and 1 a.m. off campus on Hilyard Street just south of 13th Avenue.

The student told police he befriended two men in the Subway restaurant at 1304 Hilyard Street, UO Police said.

"As the student left the restaurant to meet a taxi, he said the two men grabbed and punched him, took some of his possessions, and fled south on Hilyard Street and turned west onto 13th Alley and out of sight," UO Police said in a report.

The victim described "one of the men as a black male with a light skin tone, about 6-feet with a medium build with dark clothing and a chipped front tooth; the other he described as a Hispanic male, about 6-foot-2, heavy build of possibly 250-280 pounds, with black or brown hair with bleached tips," police said.

UO Police said they shared the information with Eugene Police.

Police urged anyone with information on this or similar incidents to call Eugene Police at (541)-682-5111.
