NEWPORT, Ore. – A 16-year-old student was charged with disorderly conduct Thursday after police identified them as the person who posted a threat against Newport High School late last month.

An Instagram post surfaced September 26 that said "The end of NHS is near. RIP NHS 10/24/17."

The post was eventually deleted by the Instagram user.

Newport Police worked with Lincoln County School District to assess the threat and work to identify the student responsible. Investigators managed to trace the user’s IP address to a 16-year-old Newport High School student.

Police arrested the student Wednesday on a charge of disorderly conduct. The school is also reviewing the incident for possible administrative sanctions.

Police said they don’t think other students were involved in the threat.
