Police: Vida woman charged with assault after running over younger brother with car
LEBANON, Ore. - An Oregon woman was jailed on an assault charge after police say she ran over her brother with a vehicle in the parking lot of the Walmart store here.
Officers responded to a reported vehicle versus pedestrian crash at the store Sunday evening at approximately 5:05 p.m.
According to callers, the driver of the vehicle ran over a pedestrian in the parking lot, and then appeared to attempt to leave the scene.
Officers arrived just as Lebanon medics arrived to treat the victim.
The investigation revealed that an altercation occurred between the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 35-year-old Melissa Louise Bennett of Vida, Oregon, and her 21-year-old brother Derrick James Freeman.
Freeman was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Bennett was arrested for Assault in the 2nd Degree and transported to the Linn County Jail, where she was lodged.
Department of Human Services was called to assist as there were two minor children in the vehicle at the time of the altercation.
