Sheriff: Driver jailed after leading deputies on a chase
ADAIR VILLAGE, Ore. - A driver led deputies on a chase from Adair Village through Corvallis and into the Cheshire area Wednesday evening.
Gerardo Garcia-Martinez, 28, faces Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, Offensive Littering and other charges, the Benton County Sheriff's Office said.
The pursuit started near Adair Village when deputies tried to pull over a car.
Instead, the driver sped off south on Highway 99 through Corvallis. At some point,t he driver tossed a weapon out the window of the car, the sheriff's office said.
Law enforcement used spike strips in an attempt to stop the car.
The vehicle slowed down but continued south toward Monroe, driving on the rims.
The driver finally gave up near the Low Pass Cafe in the Cheshire area.
Garcia-Martinez is being held on $103,500 bail.
The sheriff's office noted that Garcia-Martinez is a convicted felon but had no outstanding warrants at the time of the chase.
