Sheriff arrests boy, 12, in murder of 92-year-old Creswell woman

    CRESWELL, Ore. - A 12-year-old boy will be arraigned Friday on a charge of murder in connection with the death Monday of a 92-year-old Creswell woman, according to county officials.

    Authorities took the boy into custody early Thursday morning.

    He faces murder and burglary charges in connection with the death of 92-year-old Erma Burnell in Creswell.

    Deputies responded just after noon Monday to a report of an injured woman on the 200 block of Creswood Drive. The sheriff has not disclosed the nature of her injuries.

    The woman, later identified as Burnell, died at the scene shortly after medics and deputies arrived, the sheriff's office said.

    Investigators returned to the scene Thursday and could be seen gathering possible evidence.

    The boy faces arraignment Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the Serbu Juvenile Justice Center in Eugene, where he is being held.
