SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Portions of Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend remain on lockdown Friday night after two gun-related incidents Thursday.

Hospital staff confirm a patient took their own life with a gun inside the facility Thursday morning.

In a separate incident later in the day, Springfield Police say a suspicious person was escorted off the hospital campus after brining a gun into the hospital lobby.

PeaceHealth said several secure entry locations are reopening at the hospital, including the main lobby and the third-floor surgery entrance.

March Marshall with PeaceHealth said the lockdowns came after the two incidents Thursday.

Hours after a patient died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police say Shawn Wusstig went into RiverBend's lobby with a gun inside a case.

Officers arrested him later that same day after he was allegedly trying to get into cars.

RiverBend staff found a rifle in a gun case in the south parking garage, triggering the lockdown.

"I think at this point in time we're going to continue throughout the day and the status of the four entrances and then will reassess later today to see what the access will be through the weekend," Marshall said.

Staff members acted appropriately with the response to the incident, which followed standard protocol, Marshall said.
