Running into the new year: Level 32 holds midnight 10k on New Year's Eve

More than 150 runners will take to the streets to run into the new year with the 'First Run' 10K and 5K.

EUGENE, Ore. - More than 150 athletes are going to run right into the new year on Sunday night, when the 'First Run' kicks off at 11:59 p.m. on December 31.

It's the last race in 2017 in Eugene, and the first one in 2018. The 5K and 10K starts at Valley River Inn, and loops through bike paths in the area.

If midnight is too late for you, they are holding another run at 10 a.m. on New Year's Day.

The race director says the run is a perfect way to start the new year.

"It's like making your bed in the morning," said James Houghton. "You get that first task out of the way and it sets your day off. It's the same way, you get out your first run, get your blood pumping, build up a sweat and set some goals and standards for the new year."
