SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A Springfield man has been arrested following an assault investigation involving a child, Springfield Police Department reports.
On Tuesday, September 18, Springfield Police responded to a report of an injured 4-year-old child.
Department of Human Services alerted law enforcement to the injuries believing they were suspicious in nature.
Springfield Police detectives conducted an investigation which included a forensic interview of the child.
This led to the arrest of 23-year-old Jacob Charles Shipton of Springfield.
He was lodged at the Lane County Jail, charged with first degree criminal mistreatment and third degree assault.
The victim in this case is related to the suspect, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
