EUGENE, Ore. - A man attempted to rob a teen at knifepoint early Friday morning, only to later be apprehended after a second failed robbery attempt, Eugene Police said.

Officers booked Benjamin William Ehmer, 21, on two counts of Attempted Robbery in the First Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon, as well as an outstanding warrant.

The investigation started just before 5 a.m. when a 17-year-old boy on his way to work reported to police that a man with a knife had tried to rob him near the Echo Hollow Pool, 1655 Echo Hollow Road.

Police searched the area with a K9, to no avail.

Then a few minutes after 6 a.m., an officer driving on Highway 99 near Four Corners saw a man in the road who appeared to be following another man.

"The officer stopped the man in the road and the other man took off running," police said. "The officer quickly learned the man he stopped had also been the victim of an attempted robbery."

Officers responded to the area and took Ehmer into custody. The investigation led officers to believe Ehmer was also the suspect in the attempted robbery near the pool, police said. | CRIME MAP
