Police: Man in custody after pointing loaded gun at crowd

EUGENE, Ore. – The Eugene Police Department arrested a man for menacing and other charges shortly after midnight Saturday.

Police say officers responded to the HUB Apartments after receiving a report of a trespasser.

When they arrived, more than 10 people began to duck and run toward the officers. A couple yelled a man had a gun.

The officers saw a man, later identified as Kyle Robert Woody, 19, sweeping a handgun toward the crowd.

The officers challenged Woody who dropped the firearm and fled on foot toward the Campus Inn.

Police pursued him and called for assistance.

A sergeant spotted Woody walking at Dutch Bros at E. 11th and High Street.

Officers used a Taser to take him into custody when Woody refused their orders to stop.

Police recovered the loaded handgun.

Woody was taken into custody on charges of menacing, disorderly conduct 2, escape 3, unlawful use of a weapon, and interfering with a peace officer.
