Police: Lebanon woman charged with stealing $43K as caregiver for grandmother
ALBANY, Ore. -- A Lebanon woman has been charged with aggravated theft after an investigation revealed she was stealing from her grandmother, police said.
Linn County Sheriff's detectives charged 32-year-old Mindy Lynn Port of Lebanon with aggravated theft in the first degree and criminal mistreatment in the first degree after concluding a three-month investigation, the sheriff's office said.
The investigation came to light when the family of a 78-year-old woman, and resident of Albany, reported her retirement account had been depleted of funds.
Deputies learned that Mindy Port, the woman's granddaughter, and family had lived with her for about six months to help care for her.
Deputies subpoenaed financial records for the victim and saw over $50,000 had been taken from her financial accounts during the time the Port family lived with her.
Deputies were able to determine Mindy Port was responsible for at least $43,000 of the missing money, the sheriff's office said.
The Investigation is continuing.
