Police ID man found dead after report of shots fired in Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. - Police identified a man found dead after a report of shots fired Thursday but declined to provide further details about the case.

Police identified the victim as Anthony Xavier Johnson, 24.

On Facebook, Johnson identified himself as having studied at Lane Community College and at Willamette and Kalapuya high school student in the Bethel School District. His profile indicates he lived in Spokane, Washington.

"We are unable to release further information or provide interviews on this incident as we need to ensure the integrity of the investigation and the safety of those involved," Eugene Police said in a press release.

Johnson was arrested June 15 on Barger Driver on a Fugitive from Justice warrant out of Washington state, according to an account of the incident published by Eugene Police.

The death shocked people in the neighborhood, home to numerous restaurants and breweries.

"We've done a whole lot to build this area and to see this happen is very disappointing and also saddening," Michael Autry at Board restaurant said. "From what I understand it was a severe act of violence and like I said its not what goes on around here."
