Police: 9-year-old girl picked up, dropped off by unidentified older male
LANE COUNTY, Ore. — The Lane County Sheriff's Office found a 9-year-old girl who was reported to be missing on Friday evening, believing that she was picked up by an older gentleman who they are looking to identify.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Friday, the Lane County Sheriff's Office started looking for a girl from the Blachly area, who had been out playing with her brother in the yard.
Not long after, the brother reported to his parents that he couldn't find the sister, but her bike was found near the home. At 7:25 p.m., the parents reported her missing, having searched the surrounding areas without success. The parents also reported that the girl may have talked to her brother about running away.
Shortly before 8:00 p.m., a school official from the Triangle Lake Charter School contacted the parents and reported that the girl was at the school, safe and unharmed.
An initial investigation has revealed that an older male with grey hair had offered the girl a ride, and dropped her off at the school around 7:00 p.m. It does not appear that physical force was used to get the girl into the vehicle.
The LCSO is asking for public's assistance in identifying the man, who was driving a burgundy or maroon sport utility vehicle. Officials are also interested in viewing any video surveillance of Hwy 36 between milepost 22 and milepost 35 where the vehicle may have passed.
