EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon Department of Transportation decreased the speed limit on parts of River Road Monday.

City of Eugene requested the speed change earlier this year after hearing safety concerns from neighbors.

ODOT recently studied the current speeds and conditions on River Road, between Maxwell Road and Holeman Avenue. With the concurrence of the City and Lane County, they issued an order to change the speed limit from 40 to 35 miles per hour.

The new lower speed is aligned with the City’s Vision Zero Ordinance, aiming to prevent any loss of life or significant injury on Eugene’s roadways.
