North Eugene elementary school catches fire
EUGENE, Ore. -- Fire officials are investigating after crews responded to a fire at a north Eugene school Tuesday morning.
Eugene-Springfield Fire officials on scene say a classroom at Corridor Elementary on Silver Lane caught fire.
Fire crews from the department's Santa Clara Avenue-based station responded and spotted fire upon arrival after the fire alarm alerted authorities shortly after 5 a.m.
“Access was a minor challenge," said Eugene-Springfield Battalion Chief Scott Bishop. "We had to force our way through a gate and then we had to get over a nice wrought-iron fence. They were able to get through the window and contain the fire quickly.”
The school was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
The cause is under investigation.
Fire officials said the school is expected to be open for class aside from the classroom that caught fire.
