New turf delayed at Legion field in Roseburg

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Baseball teams in Douglas County will have to wait a little longer to play on artificial turf at Legion Field.

The new turf was supposed to be installed this spring, but weather made it difficult for crews to install the turf in time for baseball season.

Four teams will be using the facility to practice and host games.

"We don't start baseball for us in the fall until early September," said Umpqua Community College athletc director Craig Jackson. "We'll be excited, and when it's done for us, it's gonna be one of the premier facilities in the northwest."

Jackson says UCC's later start date gives crews more space and time to finish the field.

The new turf should be installed by August.
