Man charged with September 2016 murder in Eugene
EUGENE, Ore. - Police have made an arrest in the murder of a Eugene man shot to death in broad daylight in a Eugene neighborhood full of breweries and restaurants.
Kyle Robert Woody, 20, was booked into the Lane County Jail on Thursday on a charge of murder.
The charge stems from the shooting death of 24-year-old Anthony Xavier Johnson near West Fourth Avenue near Adams Street in the Whiteaker neighborhood on Sept. 1, 2016.
Police went door to door and set up a tip line after Johnson's murder while his family and friends mourned the loss of man they remembered as a loving father, brother and friend.
Woody was already in custody of the state Department of Corrections, where he has been serving time since March on charges of Burglary and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. His earliest possible release date is August 2024.
Police took Woody into custody in February after he pointed a gun at a crowd of people at the HUB Apartments.
