EUGENE, Ore. -- The largest food drive in Lane County will be a little earlier this year to help more families before the holidays.

FOOD for Lane County's Letter Carriers' Food Drive is next Saturday, November 18.

In previous years, the food drive was in December.

Organizers say if you leave three to four cans of food at your mailbox, you will help stock their warehouse for the winter.

They say they are in need of high protein, non-perishable foods, like peanut butter and canned meat.

"The other change is that it’s not two weekends this year, it's only one, so we really want to get the message out there that the Letter Carriers is Saturday. November 18th,” said FOOD for Lane County’s Stefani Roybal. “Put your food out by your mailbox. Either the letter carrier or the volunteer from FOOD for Lane County will be picking up at the mailboxes."

Nov. 18 is a University of Oregon game day, so leave the canned food at your mailbox before you head out and it will be picked up during the day.
