Wildfire west of Junction City forces closure of High Pass Road

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. - Helicopters and bulldozer crews responded to a wildfire burning near Junction City.

The fire is burning in timber in the vicinity of Schwartz Creek and High Pass Road, about 12 1/2 miles due west of town.

Early estimates pegged the fire at 3 acres, then 7 acres.

Just before noon, estimates ranged as high as 25 acres.

That estimated was later revised to 50 acres by 4:30 p.m.

The fire is burning on industrial timber lands. No structures are threatened, according to firefighters.

But the county closed High Pass Road at 1:30 p.m. until further notice.
