EUGENE, Ore. - A bicyclist on a long-distance ride stopped in Eugene at a store, left his gear outside - and returned to find his bike, trailer and gear gone.

The rider from Virginia parked the Kestrel Model 4000 Pro SL and Burley Nomad trailer outside the Safeway on Coburg Road on Monday morning around 10 a.m.

The bike was not secured with a lock, according to police.

"When the victim returned, his bike and trailer had been stolen, which included several items of property that he had brought for the trip," Eugene Police said in a report.

Anyone with information about the theft or the whereabouts of the bicycle, trailer or gear is asked to call (541) 682-5111.

Police said the crime constitutes theft in the first degree, which involves the unlawful taking of property worth over $1,000.
