Goodpasture Fire burning timberland near Vida estimated at 6 acres
VIDA, Ore. -- Crews continue to battle a fire burning near Vida.
The Goodpasture Fire has so far burned 6 acres with fire burning on industrial timberland protected by Oregon Department of Forestry's South Cascade district.
The fire started around 1:30 p.m. Monday.
ODF says crews quickly attacked the fire with two heavy helicopters dropping water, a bulldozer and two 20-person hand crews.
They say the fire is burning young plantation-grown trees.
The fire has a nominal line around it and there is water to all sections of the fire, officials report.
Helos and dozers have been released and a 20-person hand crew will continue working the night shift.
"This was a good catch. We had great help from our partners - Willamette National Forest, McKenzie Fire and Rescue and the landowner," Incident Commander John Flannigan of ODF said. "The fire had a lot of potential to grow and our efforts kept it small."
Tuesday, ODF will put a 10-person and 20-person hand crew on the fire to strengthen lines and begin mop-up of the fire and extinguish any remaining hot spots.
