Oregon State Hospital hopes to hire 500 people by 2015
EUGENE, Ore. -- Even though the new Oregon State Hospital is still two years away from opening in Junction City, hospital officials are already trying to fill hundreds of open positions.
Job hunters poured into the job fair at Junction City High School, all trying to secure a position at the new hospital campus.
Officials with the Oregon State Hospital said they're looking to fill around 500 positions over the next couple years, from registered nurses to social workers.
Positions at the psychiatric hospital attracted people like Sharma Rapoport who were looking for a job working with the mentally ill.
"I think it's really important for them to have a place to go to be able to be cared for in a really compassionate and respectful way and that would be my hope if i got a job here," said Rapoport.
The hospital plans to hire 170 people by the end of 2013. Officials added that the roughly 330 remaining staff slots should be filled over the next two years before the facility is scheduled to open in spring of 2015.
