Galentine's Day a big success at Off the Waffle in Eugene
EUGENE, Ore. - A popular Eugene restaurant is giving back to the community by celebrating a holiday that you may not find an a standard calendar.
Valentines Day is right around the corner, but Off The Waffle will be celebrating something very similar a little earlier, and different for a good cause.
Off The Waffle held its second-ever 'Galentine's Day' celebration. Restaurant workers say it's a day for ladies to come and celebrate other women in their lives.
For every waffle sold on Galentine's Day, Off The Waffle will donate one dollar to Womenspace, an organization that provides a safe space for women and their children affected by domestic violence.
Off The Waffle District Manager, Elle Bixler, says a line formed before they had even opened the door on Sunday.
"This is a way bigger response than we got last year," said Bixler. "Last year, we raised about $500 for Womenspace. This year, we raised $350 and it's still going. It's way bigger, way better and we anticipate it to be better next year too."
She adds that Galentine's Day is a day to celebrate healthy relationships and try to encourage people to think about what love is.
"We love doing events like this, we love helping the community and we love that the community helps us," said Bixler. "We love doing this all the time and we'll do this any chance we get. We think Galentine's Day is a perfect way to do it annually."
There was only a 10-minute wait for food during the peak business time on Sunday, and Bixler says she sees the restaurant continuing this tradition.
