Franklin Boulevard project to start next summer

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - The City of Springfield is sharing the latest plans for the Franklin Boulevard Redevelopment Project.

The first phase of the construction for the redevelopment project from McVay Highway to Mississippi Avenue will begin next summer.

The City Council approved the project back in February 2014. The project will focus on constructing a mixed-use neighborhood with housing, businesses and good transportation in the Glenwood area.

City of Springfield communications coordinator Lorlyn Spiro said the project is a result of community engagement over the past few years.

The first step of the plan focuses on making Franklin better for all modes of transportation. Bike lanes and new sidewalks are part of the plan.

No residents will be displaced by the road design and construction, the city said.

The City of Springfield has a federal grant application pending for funding of phase two from Mississippi Avenue to Glenwood Boulevard.
