Police: Hwy 126 near Florence closed after shootout ends in suspect's death
FLORENCE, Ore. -- Lane County Sheriff's Office was involved in a pursuit with a suspect that ended in gunfire and the closure of Hwy 126 near Florence while police investigate, police said.
According to the sheriff's office, the suspect fired at deputies.
Deputies returned fire and suspect was pronounced deceased on scene, the sheriff's office said.
Some injuries were sustained by members of law enforcement not related to gunfire and they’re being treated, authorities said.
An Oregon State Police tweet says the Lane County Interagency Deadly Force Investigation Team was en route to Hwy 126, milepost 10, around 7:20 p.m.
An official with the team told our reporter they investigate all officer involved deadly shootings.
Oregon Dept. of Transportation said the Eugene Highway is closed at milepost 1, just east of U.S. 101, for a police investigation. Travelers are advised to avoid the area and find alternate routes and the roadway is expected to be closed for an extended period.
City of Florence says Hwy 126 is closed eastbound at Spruce Street, and Munsel Lake Road is closed at North Fork Road. They say to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
Officials with Three Rivers Casino said earlier that the incident in question was on a road near them.
