Fire in Cottage Grove; Highway 99 completely shut down

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. — A fire has started burning at Whitsell Manufacturing in Cottage Grove, with the initial call coming in around 7 p.m.

Close to 5 acres of land is on fire, and the flames have completely destroyed the main building that was 100x60 feet.

200 yards by 100 yards of stored wood is also on fire, and crews are dealing with spot fires in surrounding trees.

Highway 99 is completely shut down, as well as Saginam Road.

Units from all over the county are on scene at the fire, but there were no hydrants nearby so they have to use water tenders.

Crews will be working through the night. There is no determined cause of the fire at this moment.

A viewer called in with word of a fire that is burning in Cottage Grove.

According to the viewer, the fire is taking place at a mill in Cottage Grove, and it is raining down ash on the Cottage Grove Speedway.
