EUGENE, Ore. - Some families decided to spend Mother's Day in a non-traditional way at the Eugene Library. They met up to learn more about the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival.

The festival is one of China's most important holidays. The University of Oregon Confucius Institute put the event together. The actual festival is held next month, but organizers wanted to get a head start.

"So we want to take this chance before the festival take this chance to introduce the traditional Chinese festival and share the festival with communities," said Lan Dai, UO Confucius Institute co-director

Eugene has its own group that participates in boat races; it's called the Emerald City Dragon Boat Club.
